General Dan Caine: Who Is the New Head of the US War Machine?

On 21 February 2025, President Donald Trump nominated General Dan Caine for the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS). The announcement, made via Truth Social, came about concurrently with Trump’s decision to fire Air Force General CQ Brown Junior, who had served in the role for 16 months.

For some, this appointment seems a somewhat controversial choice. Not only does General Dan Caine have a rather unusual background for the role at hand, but the political context of his appointment is also atypical.

Update: India-Pakistan Conflict Enters Uncharted Territory

Grey Dynamics, on 30 April, published a report regarding the terrorist attack in Indian administered Kashmir and the subsequent escalation in India-Pakistan tensions. Both sides have since traded missile strikes and drone attacks in a manner not seen since the 1999 Conflict.

On 10 May, a tenuous ceasefire was announced, and both sides claimed violations by the other shortly after. Since then, Prime Minister Modi has publicly stated that New Delhi had “only suspended” its military operation.

China's New Microwave Weapon: The Future is here

China has unveiled its most advanced high-power microwave weapon (HPM) to date, the Hurricane-3000, signalling a leap forward in electromagnetic warfare capabilities. Mounted on an 8Ă—8 military truck, the Hurricane-3000 uses directed microwave pulses to disable drones and electronics over distances of up to three kilometres.

Developed by state-owned Chinese defence firm NORINCO, the system was first revealed at the Zhuhai Airshow in November 2024 and has since undergone successful field testing. While it is not yet in operational service, its design, featuring gigawatt-level pulses, electronic beam steering, and a radar-optical targeting suite, positions it at the forefront of counter-drone technology.

Bayraktar Kızılelma: Turkey's 5th-Gen Unmanned Fighter Jet

The Bayraktar Kızılelma, also known as Red Apple in English, is a jet-powered unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) that is currently under development by the Turkish defence company Baykar. Known for producing the Bayraktar line of drones used both in Ukraine and across conflict zones all over the world, the company has developed this advanced fighter jet as part of Project MIUS (Muharip İnsansız Uçak Sistemi, which translates as Combatant Unmanned Aircraft System).

Expected to be introduced into active service with the Turkish Air Force in 2025, this advanced UCAV jet’s fielding will also represent the first time an active service military deploys an unmanned fighter jet alongside its forces in operations.
